About the Author.
Jayshree L Patel
Through my debut, award winning book, One Drop, Endless Ripples, I am inspired to share how nature teaches us to live joyfully and to trust the journey. I am curious about the limitless lessons that can be learned through water and nature.
I had no idea I wanted to write a children’s book until I was inspired to write this one! I was feeling a little lost after moving to the USA from New Zealand with my husband and two teenage boys. We were navigating a new country, a new culture, and the challenges of the pandemic. It is through my personal transformation and shortly after the Texas snowstorm in February 2021, that the idea of One Drop, Endless Ripples emerged.
Why water? Water is a dominant part of the landscape where I grew up in New Zealand -streams, rivers, lakes and ocean are never far away, even if you live in the city. Water fascinates me because it is so translucent and yet so powerful. It continually transforms itself; it adapts to changing conditions and it transforms the environment it is a part of. I can’t help wondering that if we could all be like water, maybe the world would be a better place.
Ever since my own children attended an early childhood Montessori school, I discovered that children thrive through curiosity and joyful exploration. As a parent and an active member of the school board, I learned that children learn best when they feel safe and connected, when they feel joyful, and when they follow their curiosity. This is often best achieved when they are out in nature. In fact, can’t we all benefit from being more connected with nature instead of our busy, tech-filled lives filled with stuff and endless to-do lists?
As a child, I loved reading. As a parent, I read to my boys every day and we had so much fun, and they learned so much! Now I am exploring children’s books once again by writing my own and I am having so much fun!
This has been a transformational journey for me. Not only have I written and published my first book, but I also became the CEO and Founder of Ripple Press LLC, an independent publishing company. I plan to make an impact on all the things I care about: families, children, the environment, and raising thriving human beings in an ever-changing world.
